Maura McCafferty is an Associate Attorney at Orr | Cook. She was born and raised in Westlake, Ohio, a suburb outside of Cleveland. She attended Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio where she received her B.A. in Dance and Business Administration. Then Maura attended Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University for post-baccalaureate studies which included coursework in accounting and tax. She joined her father’s accounting firm for veterinarians and dentists in 2005 as a personnel and management consultant, providing consultation services and giving seminars to veterinarians and dentists throughout the country. In 2010, Maura moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and helped manage the opening of an additional office for the accounting firm to better serve the firm’s nationwide clientele.
In 2015, after a decade of service as a personnel and management consultant, Maura decided to continue her studies and professional development by attending law school at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While a law student, Maura participated in the law school’s mentorship program each year, served as Treasurer for the Employment and Labor Law student association, competed in the American Bar Association’s midwestern regional negotiations competition, completed two business externships, and worked as a law clerk for a growing law firm that provided legal services to start-up companies. After she received her Juris Doctorate in 2018, Maura remained in Minneapolis and worked at a commercial litigation law firm while studying for, and then passing, the Minnesota bar exam in 2019.
Missing her family, the majority of whom now reside in Ponte Vedra Beach, Maura decided to relocate back to the Jacksonville area. Upon relocation, Maura sat for, and passed, the Florida bar exam. She is thrilled to have joined such a client-focused firm as Orr Cook, and is grateful to work on a team of exceptional professionals. Maura aspires to contribute value to this team by merging her prior business experience with her legal skills in both transactional and litigation services.
